The Pantone colour of 2017 has been announced and it’s all about bright, brilliant freshness.
According to Pantone, greenery is “a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors.”
We think this bold green is perfect for events. It ties it beautifully with other key trends this year; bringing the outside inside and the rise of the humble house plant to a stylish event prop. And given the rather stormy 2016 we’ve had, this uplifting and fresh choice is a welcome green shoot of optimism.
Florals and Foliage
Leafy greens provide a neutral colour scheme but if used on mass can also make a statement. Mini succulents and living walls are still popular but to give it more of a modern twist, think hanging ferns and leaf table placements. Try placing Granny Smith Apples in tall glass vases for table centres or keep it simple with hydrangea but look for brighter more vibrant shades rather than the dusty, soft tones of previous years.
Whilst you could go all out with bright green furniture we recommend you hang back a bit and just introduce a hint of green with coloured glass and crockery or simple green napkins on white linen. For one of our favourite events last year we covered the table with moss for a magical garden party.
There’s nothing better than the smell of fresh grass and we love installing real grass at our events. Covering the floor with real grass makes you think of long lazy days and playing in the park and guests love to kick off their socks and feel the grass under their feet. But don’t stop at the floor; take a leaf out of our book and try running fresh grass up staircases or even covering your bar for a real stand-out feature.
Food and Drink
“Eat your Greens!” is no longer a threat to finish up unloved vegetables. The healthy eating trend spearheaded green last year with kale, avocado and seaweed featuring heavily on Instagram feeds. You could also try incorporating green with matcha desserts. And who could resist the crisp and juicy flavours of green apples and the spiciness of fresh ginger in a green apple ginger martini?
Ditch the kitsch and bring a fresh approach to bunting with fresh green leaves to create a natural hanging decoration or try replacing your balloon tassels with foliage. For branded events topiary is a great option such as the Love 40 display we created for the pre-Wimbledon Tennis party. Displays of house plants can bring height to a room – we’ve bought palm trees into venues before, so think big!
